W Network’s new show Why Women Kill (WWK), premiering Sunday September 6, can drop the mic when it comes to the question I see asked over and over again in all of the mommy Facebook groups; “I need a new show to watch, any suggestions?”
You’re welcome.
Without giving too much away I will say that WWK hooked me immediately with the common theme woven through three couples living in three different decades.
Next, it took me a second to pinpoint where I knew one of the husbands from…Sam Jaeger, the loveable Joel from Parenthood!

I then was pulled in more and more as Lucy Liu’s and Ginnifer Goodwin’s character’s were unveiled. Love them!
But Kirby Howell-Baptiste and her kick-ass, take no prisoners, show-stealing intro had me officially invested in these couples’ lives and me asking “Who are they going to kill? Why? How?”
Beyond all of the exciting moving parts and highly dramatic and fast-paced scenes of this show, it was the small nuances that made me feel what these character’s were feeling.
Ginnifer Goodwin’s character, Beth Ann Stanton set in the 60’s as a traditional, doting housewife is played so incredibly well. From the way she moved, to her telling facial expressions, I found myself feeling what Beth Ann was feeling… trapped somewhere between being a “good wife” and a desperate need to find herself.
I really enjoy the way the decades each of these couples lives take place and impact variables in each of their relationships, from expectations placed on gender roles, to societal pressures and appearances. Yet I felt very connected with each of these storylines and the pressures each of these women face… work/life balance, social expectations, and traditional roles a married couple can fall into which can cause resentment and ultimately distance in a marriage.
So, the question begs to be asked… how are these women going to react to each of their situations? Will they save themselves and will they get caught? I can’t wait to see this series unfold Sundays on W Network.
